Very few games took advantage of the 3D capabilities of Impression Plus, with the only known games being the three titles that were bundled with the card in its ‘3D Superpack’ CD bundle: It fairs well in period 3D-applications and games, although it will be slower than GeForce4 Ti most of the time. Detractors, however, referred to the card as the “Matrox Mystake”. With larger framebuffer 32 bit colors are possible, but performance hit remains steep. However, apart from higher resolutions, upgrading memory did not make much difference. It is over twice as fast as Millennium G Views Read Edit View history.

Matrox “HF” drivers have a rich interface that require Microsoft. The Impression could not perform hardware texture mappingfor example, requiring Gouraud shading or lower-quality techniques. However, that card only could accelerate a very limited feature set, and was primarily targeted at CAD applications. It typically comes with 8MB RAM and is capable of rendering at any resolution that mmatrox fit within that.

Its intended audience was CAD users and others who desired high-performance, high-resolution GUI acceleration and was highly-priced accordingly. There are exception though- Millennium II supports 3d rendering in 32 bit colors and 32 bit Z-buffer.

Not to be confused with Maxtor.
Otherwise, the card was identical in feature-set to the original Mystique and offered almost identical performance. But the 3D part lacked a lot of functions, which were removed to improve overall performance. Views Read Edit View history. The Matrox Mystiquereleased inwas the company’s first attempt to make a card with good gaming performance and with pricing suitable for that market.
Matrox’s first graphics card product was the ALT for S bus computers, released in A special business-oriented version of Mystiquecalled Mystique Businesswas launched as well.
Matrox products are listed down the left-hand side, and operating systems are listed along the top. Without mipmapping support, textures in the distance appear to “swim”, waving around and appearing “noisy”, because the texture detail wasn’t being properly managed and this caused texture aliasing.
Another unknown factor are drivers, Millennium II not being exactly a gamers card may lack some optimizations. Overall, Matrox Mystique is a good choice for 2D graphics alongside 3dfx Voodoo. It is built on nm manufacturing instead of G’s nm and typically does not need a heatsink. Detractors, however, referred to the card as the “Matrox Mystake”. The Impression was aimed primarily at the CAD market. Dorval, QuebecCanada. Tweakers also don’t support memory timings so all that is left is good old clocking.
Also AGP cards were produced in high numbers and that is what I am going to test with 8 megabytes of video memory. It features a unique anti-aliasing technique called fragment anti-aliasing that provides very high quality claimed 16X-equivalent MSAA.
Driver support for the Mystique was robust at launch.
The 3D acceleration appears to be identical with even the same bugs. Including bilinear filtering would have incurred a significant cost in the chip’s transistor budget for more computational mstrox and potentially reduce graphics core clock speed and performance due to a larger chip design.
Matrox had millenimu known for years as a significant player in the high-end 2D graphics accelerator market. The games look the same, I could just repeat what I wrote previously about Mystique experience.

Matrox released their first Mystique on August 14, There are some good points for Millennium II. In other projects Wikimedia Commons.
But it is obvious competing semi-professional cards Permedia 2 and Revolution 3D offered much better 3d.
