Basically one must follow bro instructions. I have the MFCN plugged into my router, and I can print to it and scan from it over the network, on both my Ubuntu 9.
Brother printer drivers are created and optimized for 32 bit version of Linux, but those can be used for 64 bit Linux also. I did some more searching and have been able to get the printer working.
Is the PPD file that gets created usable linnux a stand alone file on a clean install without going through the above?
Using the live CD with updates, Ubuntu does not have a Brother driver to use.
Feel free to suggest an entirely different brand or model, as well. Most average and non technical users are not going to put in the research or effort required to make this printer work in Ubuntu.
